Uplinks and Tunnel Mode

Hi,

After some advice please.

Currently have an environment of virtual connect domain with two C7000 chassis with 2 x HP Virtual Connect FlexFabric 10Gb/24-port interconnects in each chassis (4 in total) all within the same VC domain.

Shared Uplink Sets have been configured using 3 ports from each interconnect module.

I need to free up one of these ports on each interconnect for a different use. Can I remove a port from the active shared uplink set without impacting services which are using it?

Second question, I want to create a Ethernet network in tunnel mode using the reclaimed uplink port on each interconnect - Am I able to assign this same Ethernet network to more than one flex nic within the same Server profile?

Thanks in advance!

FlexFabric 20/40 F8 config

We are running two FlexFabric 20/40 F8 in a C7000 chassis, one for each Fabric.  Currently port X1 is Fibre Ethernet and ports X5-X8 are FCoE SAN connections, connected to a Brocade switch.  Each blade in the chassis is running ESXi 5.0 and if we activate all ports(X5-X8) on the chassis only host connected to X5 can see storage.  If I enable only one port individually(X5 or X6 or X7 or X8), then all blades see storage on both fabrics.  Even when enabling just two ports X5-X6 only storage associated with X5 will show in vsphere. Looking at the cookbook i believe only 1 FCoE pair can function in each FlexFabric(X5-X6 or X7-X8).  Any suggestions?

Uplinks of Virtual Connect

Hey

I'm running 20 ESXi servers (Vsphere 6). 16 ESXi servers installed within C7000 enclosure with Virtual Connect stack.

Inside VC stack we are running 50 VLANs. one of these VLANs is iSCSI.

VC stack connected with 4 10G uplinks aggregated by pairs to Juniper 4550 stack. There are other ESXi servers connected to the same Juniper stack with 1GB interfaces (Dell PE630)

Question:

What should be the MTU on Juniper switches for uplink ports ? If these were dedicated ports for iSCSI VLAN, I would configure them with MTU 9000, however these are SHARED UPLINKS

Thanks

Simon

SWEET32 Vulnerability for Virtual Connect - CVE-2016-2183

Has anyone had any issue with the SWEET32 vulnerability impacting virtual connect modules?  I'm trying to find a way, if possible, to remediate the issue as my security team routinely alerts us to fix the vulnerability.  I'm assuming it will have to be taken care of on a future firmware release.

C3000 Enclosure Port Mapping

Hey guys,

Pretty interesting problem here - I have two servers I need to configure, one with VMware ESXi 5.5, and the other with FreeNAS 9.10.2. I have the operating systems already installed on my two blades, and they're both configured with an IP address. (VMWare: 192.168.1.155/24 - FreeNAS: 192.168.1.105/24)

After configuring my servers, naturally I test communications between them. Here's my problem

When the VMWare server is in Bay 4 - I can ping no problem. My FreeNAS server is in bay 6. I can't seem to ping that for the life of me. So after fooling around with lots of settings and reviewing the port mapping without success, I swapped bays. Now, FreeNAS is in bay 4, and VMWare is in bay 6. As expected, I can now ping my FreeNAS server, but not my VMWare server.

After taking a close look at the port mapping information I've come to the conclusion that both bays communicate through the same port (as far as I can tell). However with that being said I'd expect to ping both machines successfully if that were the case.

I attached a photo of the port mapping information for the FreeNAS server (Bay 4) and the VMWare server (Bay 6) as well as the interconnect module's port mapping info.

Could anybody analyze and help further explain why I'm unable to ping any bay besides 4? I have plugged a wire into EVERY single port and attempted to ping my VMWare server in bay 6 with no success. Right now I have a wire plugged into ports 1 and 2 of my interconnect bay.

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi all,

I can't configure VC through Virtual connect manager of c7000 enclosure and It's showed that VC is managed by VCEM.

But I just joined this company to be a IT admin and I don't have much information about existing system.
and I have no access to VCEM

Can I disconnect VC of c7000 enclosure from VCEM???

Never tried myself, but they say you should disable and remove the external-manager username and re-assign the mac/wwn/sn ranges by using CLI. Example:

show external-manager
set external-manager username=as_shown enabled=false
remove external-manager
mactype=User-Defined MacStart=_______ MacEnd=_______
wwnType=User-Defined WwnStart=_______ WwnEnd=_______
serverIdType=User-Defined serverIdStart=_______ serverIdEnd=_______

HP VCM unable to modify VCM after VCEM VC Domain Group placed into Maintenance Mode

Hi HPE Community,

I have a HP Matrix Operating Environment with 1 x HP Blade Chassis. I am running on the below versions:

1. Virtual Connect using HP VC Flex-10 Enet Module on version 3.70

2. Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager on version 7.1.1

Normally if I HTTPS into the VCM (HP VC Flex-10 Enet Module), it would always say that "VC Domain locked by Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager".

So under VCEM, under the VC Domain Group, I placed them into Maintenance Mode. Once I have placed them into Maintenance mode, I re-log into the VCM. It says that "VC Domain under maintenance by Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager". I could no longer view and modify the VCM.

Does anyone have any clues??

Stacking links question

I'm in the process of importing several enclosures into Oneview.  Prior to importing I want to make all of the VC uplinks identical.  May be important to mention that all of my enclosures are their own VC domain - no enclosures linked together.  One enclosure has VC ports X1 connected to our iscsi network.  I need to move that to ports X8 so it matches all of the others enclosures.  First I assume I will need to delete the iscsi uplink?  Then just move the cable and recreate the uplink?  X8 is currently assign as  a Stacking Link.  Will that automatically get reassigned to X1 or is there another step?  Btw - all blades will be powered down while I do this.

There were TWO versions of the 4Gb VC-FC module produced. The first was part #409513-B21 and the second module, which has a more robust chipset, part #409513-B22. Support for the –B21 version of the 20 port 4Gb VC-FC module was dropped from the code base in VC Firmware version 4.10. Therefore, as described in the Virtual Connect release notes since release 4.10, the 20 Port 4Gb VC-FC modules (part #409513-B21) is no longer supported and cannot be upgraded past VC 4.01 (FC firmware version 1.44). If the domain contains these modules, you will not be able to upgrade the domain beyond VC firmware version 4.01. If you still have 4Gb VC-FC modules in your enclosure, you can verify whether they are the B21 or B22 version, by logging in to the OA and navigating to the Interconnect Bay as shown below.

Not properly work NPIV feature FC switch when configure VC

Hello. I have issue with configure VC Enet (HP VC Flex-10 Enet Module 455880-B21) + VC FC (HP VC 8Gb 24-Port FC Module 466482-B21) and FC switches Brocade 5140. Doesn't want work properly NPIV feature on FC switch Brocade 5140. I updated firmware OA to 4.60, I installed VC Enet + VC FC and updated firmware to 4.45. Next, I configured new domain VC, created shared uplink set and FC.

Article (http://h20565.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01702940) describe how to configure VC and FC switch, and must be enabled features NPIV on the switch.
On my case this features enabled by default on all ports. But on the FC switchesq I can't see WWN blade servers on a port (see attachment portshow 14.jpg). Our infrastructure has another enclosure C7000 with same interconnect module VC Enet + VC FC, and attached to the same FC switches Brocade 5140.
This enclosure work properly and I see WWN blade servers(see attachment portshow 19.jpg). Version VC 4.10

what I did to solve the issue:
1. I tried to update firmware on FC Switches 6.4.3h -> 7.0 -> 7.1 -> 7.2 -> 7.3.2b;
2. I tried downgrade firmware VC 4.45 -> 4.31 -> 4.10;
3. I tried downgrade firmware OA 4.60 -> 4.40;
4. Did clean configuration OA and VC, this steps it's not solved issue.

What I did wrong, how to resolve issue?

VC Flexfabric 10/24 to Juniper EX4300 10Gb Trunking Not Working

We have a c7000 chassis with VC FlexFabric 10/24 modules attempting to connect to a Juniper EX4300 SFP+ 10Gb modules running image 14.x.  The blades in the c7000 are all running VMware 6.5 and so have been following one of cookbooks to establish VLAN tunneling to support the ESX VLAN'd environments.  Basic Enet connectivity and FC connectivity on other chassis modules are working fine, however whenever I change the Juniper port from access to trunk mode, I immediately loose connectivity to the ESX management.  Have tried many iterations of VC server profiles, SUS's, making the ESX mgt IP part of or not part of native VLAN, and various Ethernet Network schemes, but it always seems to come back to enabling the trunking on the switch kills everything.  I have sucessfully mated VC with other switch vendors in the past, but this is my first whack at Juniper, so does anyone know of some special sauce necessary to make this work?

I have a C7000 chassis configured as follow:

Device Bay 1: BL460c Gen9 with HP FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 630FLB Adapter;

Device Bay 2: BL460c Gen9 with HP FlexFabric 20Gb 2-port 630FLB Adapter;

Interconnect Bay 1 : HP VC FlexFabric-20/40 F8 Module with port X1: 10Gb LR (representing shared uplink set 1), port X2: 8GB SW FC (representing SAN_A)

Interconnect Bay 2 : HP VC FlexFabric-20/40 F8 Module with port X1: 10Gb LR (representing shared uplink set 2), port X2: 8GB SW FC (representing SAN_B)

c7000.PNG

When creating server profiles, Ehernet Adapters works fine and appear in ESXi 6.5 but there is no option to add FC HBA, only FCoE HBA is available and when used, no HBA are seen in the OS (ESXI 6.5)

NB: I'm trying to configure single hop FCoE only (from blade server to VC) not dual or multihop configuration.

Any thoughts?

VC can`t find FC modules

Hello !

I have c7000 enc with 2x VC Flex-10 Enet Module and 2x B-series 8/24c SAN Switch.

All worked fine.

After delete old vc-domain i can`t properly create new.  In creation process wizard can`t find FC modules. Wizard find 2 Flex-10, 0 - FC and 2 - Unknown.

What is the reason ?

Re: VC can`t find FC modules

Virtual Connect can't manage B-series FC modules.

So you can manage your Flex-10 modules using VC manager, but you need to configure your B-series directly from the switch module interface.

If you need to manage FC modules within VC, you need the VC FC modules, not the brocades.

Will restoring a Virtual Connect Domain interrupt SAN or Network?

I have a c7000 chassis with HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port module and HP VC 4Gb FC modules.  We had a power outage and when I try to log into the Virtual Connect Manager I'm presented with the Virtual Connect Manager Domain Setup Wizard.  I have a backup of the VC configuration that I can use to restore.  But will this cause and interruption to the server blades that are currently running in the chassis?

Is this still the case? I have a C7000 with the following:

1,2 = 10Gbps pass-thrus

3,4 = 4Gbps FC pass-thrus

5,6 = 8Gbps VC-FCs

We don't want any VC-FC features - we just want pass-through to our Nexus 5548UPs. Using OneView in managed mode, I was able to configure the VC-FC's and my Nexus switchs sees the Blade PWWNs.

Is VC-Enet still required now that we have OneView?
