Hi all,

i have some news about this.

Envir.  Virtual Connect FlexFabric-20/40 - AJ716B  (8GB) incompatible in VirtualConnect 20/40 .

There is prob. misisng authentification for this part.

Verified solution for me in 2x times.

1)in one blade in impacted enclosure  upgrade fw on mezzanine HBA to latest . version , manually up HBA card + connection linked to "failed" port . Then is SFP validated.

Virtual Connect Server Profile - Mapping Lost

$

We've had two BL460c Gen9 servers in c7000 G1 & G2 enclosures temporarily lose mappings to the Ethernet Adapter Connections and FC HBA Connections under their server profiles; the status was listed with a warning icon.  Shutting down and reseating the servers in the device bay allowed the server to restore connectivity and the status for those mappings went green.

Based on the previous troubleshooting we've done with HPE, this might be symptomatic of a compatibility issue between the BL460c Gen9 and the G1 & G2 enclosures that are running older VC modules (1/10Gb VC-Enet & VC 4Gb FC).

Our long-term fix is to retrofit our G2 enclosures with VCFF-20/40 F8 modules, replace the oldest G1 with G3 enclosures outfitted with VCFF-20/40 F8 modules, then migrate the newer BL46x Gen8/Gen9 servers to the G2 or G3 enclosures.

Has anyone out there been experiencing a similar intermittent mapping loss in their server profiles?  Thank you.

FlexFabric are "converged" capable modules that can support both Ethernet and FC connectivity from the same module.  If by Virtual Connect, you mean the predecessor modules to FlexFabric; those were specific to either Ethernet or FC connectivity:  VC-E (Ethernet) or VC-F (FC/SAN).  You can still use the Virtual Connect interface to manage either FF or VC connectivity on a blade enclosure.

Did that answer your question?

Hello,

Please verify the OA, Blade and VC compatibility matrix.

https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=mmr_kc-0100204

How many servers are installed in the enclosure?

Does the enclosure has servers with different generations?

What is the frequency of the issue?

Does it happens on all the blades?

Is the firmware and drivers of the NIC and HBA on the servers are at recommended levels?

Have you tested any one Gen9 server with G2 C7000 enclosure to isolate the issue?

If your enclosure is updated as per the above matrix and you have tested the above. I request you to log a case with HPE.

Thank you.

HP VC Flex-10 Enet - Active/Active not working

Hi,

I am trying to achieve the Active/Active setup from example #11 in the Flex-10 cookbook, but always only one link is set to active the other remains in standby. By the way LACP  to the connectet HP 5900 isnt working too - only the static method.

What i did:

1. I assigned X5 and X6 from VC 1 to a SUS and connected them to the uplink switch on a static LAG.

2. I created a server profile and assigned the created SUS to it.

The result is only one active link - the other in standby.

Shouldnt both of the links be in actice state?

Why ist dynamic LACP not working? When enabling dynamic LACP with  stp edged-port in the 5900, both links remain in unselected state.

I read many posts in this forums - some said that actice/active ist only possible with a SUS builded from two VC bays (expample #11 does the opposite). Then i read on some posts that because VC behaves not like a switch dynamic LACP will not work.

So what is the correct way for setting up an active/active connection to an uplink switch with dynamic LACP enabled?

Ok - active/active is only possible with connectionen from different VC bays. I tried that and created one SUS with X5 from VC 1 and X5 from VC 2 - the result is the same: only one link is active. What could I do to debug that problem?

HP Virtual connect

Hi

We have 2 x HP VC-Flex-10 Enet Mdules in our C7000 chassis running in active /standby mode.

Currently we have Bay 1 X3 and X4 and Bay 2 X3 and X4 linked to a shared uplink set.

I am trying to setup a new network to present to the blades (BL360 gen8) so i have

  1. created a new network set
  2. Mapped it to an existing shared uplink set
  3. Given it a VLAN ID (not native), and assigned it to the only Network access group. we use.

However, under Ethernet networks > External Connections, the In-Use colum still shows No. and under under Ethernet networks > Server connections, the new network is not listed there.

Could someone let me know if i am missing a step here?

Thanks

OK, so i was missing a step.  I performed the additional step of going to connections > server profiles > bay 4 > and added in the new ethernet adapter. I added it in twice as the previous ones appear to have been done that way too.  However after i apply they are showing not mapped.  I must be doing something wrong, I have attached some photos, any help appreaciated.

This is with regards Ethernet Adapter Connections screenshot the Network Name (EN-Production2 and EN-Production2) was showing Not Mapped because under network connection both embedded network adapter ports (2 physical embedded port x 4 Virtual ports = 8 Virtual ports) are already added and by default they are mapped to Bay 1 and Bay 2 interconnect modules (VC Flex-10).

Note: Virtual Connect FlexFabric provides up to four physical functions for each blade server adapter network port. All four connections can have their hardware personalities defined by the System Administrator as FlexNICs.

However if you want to add more network connection for Bay 4 server profile, you need to install mezzanine card and corresponding interconnect module in Bay 3 and 4 for more connections.

Please refer C7000 enclosure port mapping.

Please refer HP Virtual Connect FlexFabric Cookbook (Page Number 114 to 128) for Shared Uplink Set with Active/Standby Uplinks configuration for more information.

Hi @anttipennanen and

Did you ever get an answer to your question.

We are in a similar position. We are adding a pair of Virtual Connect interconnects to an existing C7000 chassis. The blades are already configured to use the Cisco 1GbE switches in the Chassis.

Do you know if configuring the Domain will disable ALL blade network traffic including that running through the 1GbE Cisco interconnects?

Many thanks for your help,

Matt

Hey ,

No, never got an answer and I can't remember what we ended up doing.

We've had so many problems with HPE blade switches it's ridiculous.

We ended up swapping the switches out with about 4 or 5 different models to try and find a reliable option, none of them have been good.

Currently for inter-blade (virtualisation management / comms) networking we're using HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Modules (PN 571956-B21) setup as dumb switches with absolutely minimal (esentially no) configuration, we still have to be very careful with them as things as simple as power cycling a blade can cause them to lock up and require a reset and don't even get me started on updating their firmware...

But all HPE blade switches (HPE/Cisco/Nortel models) proved so unrelaible we ended up throwing out all the various models we tried for our 'data' networks and put in pass-through modules. (HP 10GbE Pass-Thru Module, PN 538113-B21) which have had their own share of dodgy problems, but not nearly as many as the switches available.

Hi, after some more testing, i came to the same conculsion that i had reached a limit, however i managed to get around it by using the multiple networks method under the ethernet connections under each bay.

How to disable TLSv1.0 on c7000 Onboard Administrator?

$

Hello,

I am trying to mitigate the SSLv2, SSLv3, TLSv1.0, POODLE vulnerability on a c7000 chassis in both the Onboard Administrator and Virtual Connect Interconnects but am having some difficulty.  I have 5 c7000 boxes to address configured in 2 system configurations:
    System1    OA3.60 / VCM4.50
    System2    OA4.30 / VCM4.50

According this HP Support Communication, (https://h20564.www2.hpe.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/kb/docDisplay?docId=emr_n
a-c05157667), it is possible to address the Onboard Administrator provided OA v4.3 or later is installed.

According to the HPE Virtual Connect Manager Command line interface for c-class bladesystem version 4.40/4.41 Documentation (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&ved=2ahUKEwjD4cbJ2a7fAhUBjq0KHZ1dBlgQFjAAegQICRAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.hpe.com%2Fhpsc%2Fdoc%2Fpublic%2Fdisplay%3FdocId%3Demr_na-c04562191%26docLocale%3Den_US&usg=AOvVaw3ls1msGT26gnwCtHCGRApv), it is possible to disable TLSv1.0 (p124) on the VCMs.

In my scenarios, I am unable to update the OA on System1 to 4.3+.  I tried to update with several SPP packages thinking I may have to step through the udpates:  SPP2015.04, SPP2016.10, SPP2017.104, SPP_G7.1, and SPP_Gen8.1.  All attempts to update the OA fail with "(Error -3)".

On System2, the OA "Edit Advanced Security Settings" option is not in any of my systems.

In both System configurations, I am unable to disable TLSv1.0.  It is not in the GUI or the CLI menus.  I have even SSH'd into the VCM, and used CLI command "show ssl" and no TLS option is shown.

Q1:    How do you recommend updating the OAs?
Q2:    What am I missing to disable the TLSv1.0/POODLE in the VCMs?

Many thanks,
Bobby

Hello BJohnson101 ,

Indeed the information/documents you shared are accurate. Based on your description I understand that you are trying to upgrade OA via SPP (SUM). If you want to troubleshoot further, once the upgrade fails SUM allows you to expand the error & delve into the text message in order to locate more info on the cause that interrupted the update process.

If for any reason, you still face difficulties via SPP you can always upgrade OA module via the GUI by uploading relevant OA bin file that you can download from the hpe.com site. Relevant option for OA firmware upgrade is under Active OnBoard Administator. You can find more info here: https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=null&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c00806740&withFrame by searching firmware update
