Anyone could tell me how to auto-failback NPIV in manual login redistribution mode after the fault SAN link is recovered, especially for none SAN Fabric configuration?

Hi Team,

Have plan to setup C7000 with Bl 460 C G10 ,  New to HP Blade Server for me

For Scenario - HPE Virtual Connect FlexFabric-20/40 F8 Module for c-Class BladeSystem

How many Management Ports required -

e.g - (1) ILO - How many Network IP Needed, - If Half Blade - 16 usually

( 2) How many Network IP Needed - Virtual Connect - 2 Pair of Virtual Connect- ?

(3)  How Many Network IP Needed - OA - On board Administrator- ?

(4) Please tell me other than any IP required for apart from those 3 items ?

We have some BL890c i4 with QLogic QMH2562 8Gb FC HBA for HP BladeSystem c-Class, and its NPIV can work fine without any Fabric configuration!
Anyone could explain such phenomenon?

Yes, updating the firmware directly to the OA would be a great idea, but I don't have that option.  When i click on Enclosure Information>>Enclosure Settings >> Enclosure Firmware Management >> Settings Tab, I can enable the "Enable Enclosure Firmware Managment" option, but can ONLY utilize a URL.  The option to "Browse" to locate a file is not available:
c7000_firmware-console.JPG

Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Bobby

Nevermind, I now see what I was doing wrong:  I should have drilled down into the Enclosure Information >> Active Onboard Administrator >> Firmware update...... NOT the Enclosure Settings.

I have update the FW on the OA and now the TLS options are there to disable.
Thanks everyone!

How to remove 1 port in Virtual Connect Synergy 1

Hello Everyone,

Current we have 4 port (2 port 1 BAY) & configuration is active-active , LACP on core switch.

Now we have need remove 1 port on 1 bay interconnect VC on Synergy system.

How impact with this action ? If we remove physical , what need we do it on config virtual connect ?

Hello,

Ok. You have 2 uplink ports from each ICM (ICM 3 and ICM 6) with Active-Active with LACP on core switch.

To change the uplink config from 2 port to 1 port from each ICM, you need to edit the uplink set on the Logical Interconnect Group (LIG).

Oneview --> Logical Interconnect Group --> Choose the Network LIG--> Edit --> Edit the "Uplink set"--> remove the uplink port which you wanted to remove --> Then click ok.
Once LIG is updated, you would need to perform Update from Group on the Logical Enclosure "Action " menu.

This would apply the configuration to VC module to use the single ports from both ICMs.

Once done, you need to update the LACP config on the core switch accordingly.

Ideally this should not cause any impact, however perform the changes during maintenance window.

Hope this helps..

Hello,

The login re-distribution scheme to use for load balancing. Values include "Auto" and "Manual".

The default login re-distribution is "Manual" for a "FabricAttach" fabric. Login re-distribution is not supported for "DirectAttach" fabrics.

The HPE VC 4Gb FC Module, HPE VC 8Gb 20- Port FC Module, and HPE VC 8Gb 24-Port Module support only manual login redistribution.

The HPE VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-port Module and HPE VC FlexFabric 20/40 F8 Module support both auto and manual login redistribution.

1)  Could you tell me what ever the effect with the fabric configuration in VC-FC modules?
2)  Why the PWWN of VC-FC ports cannot be seen either in VC or in OA, except for NPIVs?
Notes: but they indeed can be seen in the SAN switch side!   For example:

Thank for your answer. More question "you would need to perform Update from Group on the Logical Enclosure "Action " menu" --> This action need downtime server for apply agian server profile ?

Thank so much.

Hello,

When it comes to C7000 and Blade servers, The servers Mezz card physical port info would be listed in the below command from OA.

OA> show server info (Blade number)

example: show server info 1    >>> to see the blade details with Integrated / Mezz ports WWN numbers

OA> show server port map   >> This would show the port mapping details of Server ports and VC port mappings.

However, the NPIV ports that are created under OS will not be listed here in OA / VC..
But those ports will sow you on the switches as logged in with the details as they are capable of listing the NPIV port details.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

The server downtime may not be required, since you are just removing the one uplink.. Other uplink should be active.

However, you might see network / storage disconnects depends on the uplink that you are removing it.

So better plan to do the same during planned maintenance window or during less load. so that impact would be lesser incase of any issue.

Hope this helps.

I have reviewed the outputs of the OA and the corresponding host,  and find that the PWWNs on OA are just the same as the host's PFC PWWNs!
So what are the PWWNs for 20:00:74:46:a0:71:1a:0b/20:11:74:46:a0:71:1a:0b that seen on the SAN switch side?   NPIVs?

Tranceiver P/N 455885-001 support HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Module ?

Hi everybody,

I had C7000 enclosure system, with 2 HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Module (not module ethernet 10Gbs )

Now i need 2 module tranceivers 10GBs, so I buy 2 HP tranceivers P/N 455885-001

But i insert them to bay 1 X3, and bay 2 X3 of HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Module , configure SUS, Network vlan....

but SUS not active, stil standby.

I try show traffic on 2 port X3, it is not show tx traffic, eq =0, but link is linked

And show traffic on Cisco Switch (connect to this port X3)

Are 2 Tranceiver P/N 455885-001 not support HP VC FlexFabric 10Gb/24-Port Module ?

Anybody have same this case ?

Hello,

Yes. those should be NPIVs.

Sometimes, we see the ports logged in as Physical port PWWNs+number of NPIVs logged.

Example:  F-Port  1 N port + 1 NPIV Public  in switchshow output.

Hope this helps.

Could you tell me how to understand such phenomenon that the NPIVs cannot be seen in the OA/VC environments?

Re: The work mechanism of NPIV without port-uplink SAN configuration in VC-FC

Hello,

I would say thats how it is designed.

I may be wrong as well..

As per my understanding, The OA and VC would only shows the physical ports WWNs / MAC addresses.

The NPIV is something that getting created or assigned to Guest OS running on a Particular Host and it has its own mecahnisam to connect to the switches and displays as a NPIV public ids and communicated via Physical Host.

You would be able to see the NPIV PWWNs on the switch side only.

# port show (port number)  >>> should show the physical WWNs and its NPIV WWNs.

For more clarification, i Would suggest you to get a support case logged with HPE VC  support to get this more clarified.

Hope this helps.
